Introducing…Community On Board
Would you like to make a difference in our
community by becoming a nonprofit board member?
Giving Monadnock is pleased to introduce the Community On
Board Program: a program to train and match business
professionals for nonprofit board service in the Monadnock
Region.
Nonprofit organizations add greatly to our quality of life in
the Monadnock Region. Each nonprofit depends on its Board of
Directors to provide leadership and professional skills to
ensure their success. If you are a business professional with a
desire to give back to our community, this is your opportunity
to participate in Giving Monadnock’s Community On Board
program and join a nonprofit board.
Community On Board is a board training and matching
program for business professionals interested in serving on the
board of a nonprofit organization in the Monadnock Region.
Through this program, participants will receive instruction in
nonprofit board service and will be introduced to organizations
that match their interest and that need their particular skills.
Community On Board benefits regional businesses by
helping them become stronger community members through increased
community service and nonprofit board representation. The
program can develop leadership and team building skills in
management employees and assist employees in “putting down
roots” through nonprofit board service and greater community
involvement.
Applications are being accepted for the Fall 2008 Community on Board program. Dates and time to be announced.
The sessions will focus on:
- Nonprofit Governance – Major Roles and Responsibilities
of Board Members
- How nonprofits work – differences from for-profit businesses
- Legal Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight and Fundraising
- Shared Leadership – Meetings and Effectiveness
- Board Development/Building
- The Board/Staff Relationship
- Monadnock Region Nonprofits
Observing a board in action will be a component of the
training program.
Faculty and panelists will consist of Monadnock Region leaders
who come from business, nonprofit and foundation focuses.
Coursework will be varied, including experiential workshops,
group discussions and case studies. At completion of training,
the participant’s interest and expertise will be matched to an
organization’s board or board committee and introductions will
be made to facilitate board placement.
Program fees are $250 per participant and may be paid by
businesses or participants.
In early spring, nonprofit organizations seeking board members
with specific skills will have the opportunity to apply for a
board candidate who will match their needs.
